The elusive logic of Haunted and Fight Club: A Lacanian journey into the semiotics of Chuck Palahniuk’s fiction

In both Palahniuk stories (Haunted and Fight Club) characters seem to face up their divided selves: they create their „other” to cope wih reality. R. D. Laing’s concept of elusion establishes the „self of the other”, which is essential in the analysis of the beforementioned texts. Through Lacanian theories, the interpretive analysis can lead to different interpretations of how the characters’ supplementary  selves „ex-sist” in their reality, maintaining and granting the characters’ subjectivity.  Chuck Palahniuk in his minimalist style and the language of medical semiotics authorizes his characters to form support groups and exorcise their haunting pasts.

Mindkét Palahniuk műben (Haunted és Harcosok Klubja) a szereplők a megosztott énjükkel kell, hogy szembenézzenek: a „másik” létrehozása segít nekik a valóság megbirkózásával. R. D. Laing eluzió koncepciója, mely létrehozza „a másik énjét” elengedhetetlen az előbb említett szövegek elemzéséhez. Lacan-i elméleteken keresztül számos interpretáció nyílik meg előttünk, hogy ezek a kiegészítő „szelf”-ek mily módon ex-zisztálnak (kívülről léteznek), fenntartva és biztosítva a karakterek szubjektumát. Chuck Palahniuk a minimalista stílusában és az orvosi szemiotika nyelvével felhatalmazza karaktereit terápiás csoportok létrehozásával és a múlt kísérteteinek kiűzésével.
